Day 7 - Optimism

There is a difference between being optimistic and being positive. Positive people are great when things are going well, but can be dangerous when things are less so. They don’t grasp the problem as they think things are fine now.

Optimistic people are different. They don’t necessarily view things as being good now, but they do believe that things can get better in the future (with the right plan and effort).

Great teachers are naturally optimistic about students; even with the students struggling to learn the most.

Sadly, some leaders can become binary, labelling (subconsciously) staff and team members as either ‘good’ or ‘not so good’. We all have an inclination to judge and put people into boxes, which is both unhelpful and wrong.

However, great leaders are optimistic – that with an enduring and patient commitment to developing all people, then this will lead to things being better.
